Back to School Orientation

Orientation dates and times for the two campuses are as follows:

  • Preschool students are invited to attend the Popsicle Social on Wednesday, August 9th from 6:00-7:00 PM at the ECC.  Students will bring their school supplies, and will meet their teachers and new friends.
  • Preschool Parent meeting is on Thursday, August 10th from 6:00-7:00 PM.  This meeting is for parents only.  The preschool teachers will review the expectations and goals for the year, and answer your questions.
  • Orientation for Kindergarten-8th grade is on Monday, August 14th. Families are welcome to attend either the noon-2:00 PM or 5:00-7:00 PM session. Both sessions will start at St. Paul Church with a brief overview of the school presented by Jeanne Miller, president of SPPS, and Jamie Burch, principal of SPPS.  Families will be dismissed from the church to the school to drop off their school supplies, meet their teachers, and get settled for the year.

Middle School Summer Reading Assignment

This summer, students will be assigned one book per grade level. In addition, students are asked to read a minimum of one-hour per week throughout the summer (at or above their grade level). This reading can be done from a variety of sources: newspapers, magazine articles, novels, short stories, non-fiction, etc. Many students are on a range of reading levels, and we want your student to find books that are on his/her level, or slightly above. Before your student begins reading their book of choice, please have them go to, and type in the title of the book to find out its Lexile, or reading level. Many students are on a variety of reading levels.  We suggest your student find books that are on their level, or slightly above.

Great Leaps

Are you looking for a way to get involved at SPPS?  The Great Leaps reading program is a wonderful opportunity to volunteer your time and talent.  Great Leaps volunteers donate 45 minutes one day each week to work individually with students to help them gain confidence, knowledge, and reading proficiency.  A training session will be provided to help you administer the program.  This program runs on volunteers – the more volunteers we have, the more students will receive this wonderful experience.  If you are able to donate your time, please contact Kristin Majors
