Early Childhood Campus (ECC)

Sts. Peter and Paul School’s Early Childhood Campus is your child’s home away from home.  The Early Childhood Campus (ECC), located at 133 Barr Street in downtown Lexington and a short distance from the SPPS main campus, offers childcare and educational opportunities for children from infant to Preschool.

Preschool (For 3- and 4-Year-Olds)

Child/Teacher Ratio – 12:1

Our classes engage children in hands-on learning. The curriculum follows Kentucky’s Early Childhood Standards with key components in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health Education, Physical Education and Arts and Humanities. We support children as individuals and encourage them to explore, question, and discover answers in a safe, loving environment.

Little Angels Program

Infants (6 weeks to 12 months)
Child/Teacher Ratio – 3:1

Each baby’s individual schedule is established so their diaper changes, feedings and nap times will be personalized.

To instill trust and a healthy learning environment, much time is spent cuddling and talking to our babies. We sing songs and read stories to encourage language acquisition, and play games to develop motor skills.

We encourage movement and exploration with our infants. There are several areas in the room that provide space and manipulatives to allow this type of development.

Regular communication between teachers and parents is established to keep parents informed about their child’s day.

Each child is provided their own crib, sheet, blanket and cubby.

Toddlers (12 to 24 months)
Child/Teacher Ratio – 6:1

We place an emphasis on learning self-help skills in this classroom. We work with the toddlers on using a sippy cup and utensils while eating. They also learn to take turns, share and cleanup at the end of the day.

Toddlers are encouraged to practice walking, climbing, sliding, balancing and pushing. Soft climbing pads are available to develop these gross motor skills.

This room has a reading center to encourage language acquisition, a dramatic play area with kitchen, play food, dolls and dress-up clothes, and a block area with blocks, animals, and other toys for imaginary play.

Our teachers focus on emerging language skills. Singing songs, talking about activities as the toddlers are doing them, repeating names of objects and actions so the children can begin making those connections between words and meanings.

Toddlers are capable of learning routines and feel comfortable with consistency. Our teachers follow a daily schedule and have a weekly themed curriculum to engage the children in active learning.

When weather permits, we spend time outside on our playground. Our gym also allows us to provide gross motor activities as they can climb, slide, crawl, catch and throw.

Regular communication between teachers and parents to keep parents informed about their child’s day.

2-Year-Olds (24 to 36 months)
Child/Teacher Ratio – 10:1

Each child is provided his/her own mat, sheet and cubby.

This classroom has more defined centers. The children enjoy a reading center, blocks center, dramatic play center, music, art, science center, and more manipulatives.

Potty training is a main focus in this classroom. The children are taken to the potty regularly and we patiently aid them in learning the steps needed to become independent and graduate into big girl/boy underwear.

Emerging language skills continue to be a focus with our young students. Our weekly themes include singing songs, reading books and having daily conversations about the theme. Children are taught to use their words to communicate effectively with each other and to problem solve.
